Special crane for new pumped storage power plant in Forbach

For the construction of the new pumped storage power plant in Forbach by our client, the PORR AG, TEICHMANN CRANES completely overhauled and modernized a special gantry crane with a lifting capacity of 20t and a span of 6.4m that operates underground in a 160m deep shaft. It features a special personnel winch that transports workers into the shaft, where shaft lining work is carried out.

Back in 2014, TEICHMANN CRANES already delivered the special gantry crane to PORR AG, which at the time was used for the construction of the Obervermunt power plant in Austria, the world's most modern energy facility.

For the construction of a new pumped-storage power plant in Forbach, we have now rebuilt and modernized the crane. The hook travel was extended to 160 meters, a new hoist brake was installed, the hoist gearbox including the motor was completely overhauled (including an expert report from a crane specialist), and the entire crane control system was modernized. In addition, all safety-relevant components were implemented with redundancy (duplicates).

Because personnel transport was also required this time, BRUNNHUBER CRANES designed and built a special personnel winch capable of lifting people weighing up to 2 tons into the 160-meter-deep shaft.
